OUR DIRECTOR

Dr. J.P. Gupta has for long been a Professor of Chemical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree from I.I.T. Kanpur, Master’s from the University of Michigan and PhD from the University of Pennsylvania. He was the Head of Department of Chemical Engineering and Member, Board of Governors, I.I.T. Kanpur.

Dr Gupta was a Member of the Governing Council of Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology and Visitor’s Nominee to the Aligarh Muslim University. He was deputed by the Government of India to the diplomatic position of Counsellor for Science and Technology at the Embassy of India, Washington DC and as India’s Delegate to the United Nations. He was deputed by UNDP as an Expert at PLAPIQUI, Bahia Blanca, Argentina. He has worked with UOP, Des Plaines and EER Corporation, Virginia and has been a Consultant to Larsen & Toubro, Bombay. He has been a Visiting Professor at the University of Michigan, Texas A&M, Loughborough U.K; Ecole des Mines Ales, France; Yunlin University of Science & Technology, Taiwan; and the National University of Mexico, Mexico City. He was the Founder Director General of Gujarat Energy Research and Management Institute that has set up the Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Gandhinagar. He has been an instructor in short courses in Finland, Oman and U.K. He has published/ presented over 120 papers and has participated in conferences and seminars on all 6 continents.

He was awarded the 2002 Hutchinson Medal of the Institution of Engineers, UK (jointly with David Edwards) for the best paper published in their journal. He is on the Editorial Boards of several globally renowned research journals and is a Member of numerous professional bodies. Dr Gupta is listed in Marquis’ Who’s Who and International Biographical Centre, Cambridge.
